Single Chinese, a demographic group that is largely middle class,
well-educated and financially comfortable, are comfortable with being
single, the China Business Times reported.

"We estimate that the percentage of people who remain single in China
might be around 30 percent in years to come," said Zuo Xiaosi, a
researcher from the Sociological and Demographic Research Institute under
the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Social Sciences.

At present, the "single boom" occurring in society has undergone many
changes, which are already beyond the study scope of the research
institute. The lifestyle and life values of these people are gradually
influencing the whole society, Zuo said.

Recently, the News Weekly and the Souzhi Investigating Company jointly
conducted a survey about Chinese singles, among 1,024 people from
Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

The investigation showed that 28.6 percent of the people surveyed had no
qualms about buying luxury goods, and 16 percent go to pubs or KTV bars
at least once every week. Of those surveyed, 31.6 percent spend most of
their money on entertainment activities and social gatherings, while only
5.4 percent had insurance. The trends were especially typical among the
so-called "golden collars" - those making 7,000-20,000 yuan each month.
