Quay culture reappears in Chongqing
www.chinanews.cn 2005-01-20 15:58:52
On January 19, on the river banks of Chongqing's ancient Ciqikou town,
several carpenters are working hard at building a replica of old pirate
ships. It is understood that the dozens of replicas under construction
are being prepared for the Spring Festival temple gathering and the first
Chinese Quay Cultural Festival held by the locals during the Spring
Festival. On the river banks of Ciqikou, there are various kinds of
ships, such as bamboo rafts, fishing rafts, and warships used by the Ba
People, ancestors of the Chongqing people, ancient official vessels, and
the treasure ship commanded by Zhen He during his sea voyages. With a
representation of the sailboats and other vessels from China's 56 people
groups, it had almost all the models that were used in the past.
